Arthur P. Skarmeas
Managing Attorney & Founder
Arthur Skarmeas has practiced law in the areas of Estate Planning and Administration, Elder Law, Corporate law, Real Estate Law, Litigation and Appellate Law for over 20 years. Arthur’s depth of experience, attention to detail, and personal concern for his clients has been the hallmark of his career.
Prior to founding the Law Office of Arthur P. Skarmeas, LLC he was a partner in the law firm of Clinton & Muzyka, P.C. where he handled admiralty and complex litigation matters, as well as practicing in the areas that are the focus of his present firm. Previous to that, he was an associate at another Boston firm where he engaged in general practice.
Arthur received his B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) from Merrimack College in 1982 and his Juris Doctorate (Cum Laude) from Suffolk University Law School in 1985.
Attorney Skarmeas is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the New Hampshire Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts. He is admitted to practice before the State and Federal Courts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the District of Columbia. He is also licensed to practice on a case-specific basis in the states of Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, and Louisiana.
Arthur is a resident of Danvers, Massachusetts where he resides with his wife Lyn, daughter Alex, and son John. He is an active volunteer on many town and school department committees, youth sports, and recreation programs.
Cristen Cozart Lebel
Senior Associate Attorney
Cristen Cozart Lebel graduated from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts in 2000. After graduating, Cristen worked for an admiralty insurance defense firm as an associate. Her practice experience has been quite diverse since 2004, when she started her own practice.
Attorney Lebel has handled legal matters such as business development and estate planning as well as domestic relations and probate litigation. She also practices in these areas as a part time associate at The Law Office of Arthur P. Skarmeas.
Attorney Lebel is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and all courts within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Michael R. Landers
Of Counsel
Michael R. Landers, is of-counsel with the Law Office of Arthur P. Skarmeas, LLC. Mr. Landers concentrates his practice in the areas of, zoning, residential and commercial title issues and real estate conveyancing. During his 20 year practice, he has conducted thousands of real estate closings and has represented numerous development interests before local Boards, Commissions and other committees. Mr. Landers is licensed to practice in the Massachusetts and Federal Courts. He is also a Commissioner of Deeds in New Hampshire.
Mr. Landers received his B.A. in history from Merrimack College in North Andover and his J.D., Magna Cum Laude, from the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover.
Prior to joining Skarmeas Law, Mr. Landers was an associate, and of-counsel to the firm of Cote & Casey in Danvers and was an Associate with the firm of Ardiff & Morse, P.C., in Danvers and Peabody. Mr. Landers also clerked for the Honorable Peter W. Agnes, Jr., in the Massachusetts Superior Court and interned with the Honorable James H. Wexler in the Massachusetts District Court.
Active in the community, Mr. Landers served a term as a Danvers Selectman and is a past Chairman of the Danvers Planning Board and the Town’s Recreation Committee. He currently serves on both The Danvers Finance Committee and Municipal Light Board and is on the Board of Governors at the Ould Newbury Golf Club. Mr. Landers is a life-long resident of Danvers, where he currently lives with his wife Anne. Mr. and Mrs. Landers have three grown children and a grand-daughter.
Michael R. DiFilippo
Associate Attorney
Michael R. DiFilippo is an Associate with the Law Office of Arthur P. Skarmeas, LLC. Mr. DiFilippo concentrates his practice in the areas of civil litigation, business development, probate, and estate planning. He has experience representing both private and corporate clients in the Massachusetts District Courts, Probate and Family Courts, and Land Court. Mr. DiFilippo is licensed to practice in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
Mr. DiFilippo earned his B.A. in History from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH; his M.A. in History from Salem State University in Salem, MA; and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, MA. While in law school he practiced as a Rule 3:03 Student Attorney with the Suffolk University Law School Health Law Clinic and was a Legal Innovation and Technology (LIT) Fellow. Moreover, he was recognized as a Distinguished Oral Advocate in the law school’s Legal Practice Skills program.
Mr. DiFilippo currently resides in Newburyport, MA. He is a member of the Essex County Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. When not in the office, he spends his time either skiing in Maine or spending time on Cape Cod.
Linda Flaherty
Paralegal & Office Manager
Linda joined Skarmeas Law as a paralegal in November 2006. She received her B.S (Summa Cum Laude) in Business Administration from Northeastern University and her Paralegal Certificate (4.0 GPA) from North Shore Community College. In 2010, in addition to her paralegal responsibilities, she took on the role of Office Manager. She is also a Notary Public.
Prior to her career change to the legal field, Linda held a variety of challenging positions in the high-tech industry, most notably with Wang Laboratories and the Computer Products Division of Avnet, Inc. She also produced, marketed, and distributed “The Mass Factor” (2010 – 2016), a cable access TV program that aired in over 200 towns in Mass. & NH.
Linda lives in Danvers, Massachusetts where she resides with her husband Joe. They have one grown son, Kevin. A 20-year Town Meeting Member, she was also an active volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 58 and Danvers Educational Enrichment Partnership.
Joanne Mahoney
Legal Assistant
Joanne received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Lowell in 1985. She is also a Notary Public. Joanne began her legal career working for the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office as a Victim Witness Advocate. She then joined Looney & Grossman, a medium-sized law firm in downtown Boston, as a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal. After leaving the legal field for many years and working part-time jobs while raising her children, Joanne joined the Skarmeas Law Office in February, 2018 as a Legal Assistant. As the firm has expanded, Joanne has assumed many Paralegal duties in the areas of Real Estate, Probate and Estate Planning. She resides in Peabody, Massachusetts with her husband, Byron.
